Fluid Art

Fluid art, also known as flow art or acrylic paint pouring, is an abstract painting technique that uses fluid mediums such as free-flowing acrylic paints and iridescent mica powdered pigments. Various additives like silicone oil, Floetrol, varnishes, and untinted paint bases enhance the movement and interaction of colors. Artists manipulate the paint by employing techniques such as tilting, swiping, and spinning to create mesmerizing effects, including marbleized cells and intricate structures.

With over 100 fluid art techniques available today, each requires specific materials and methods. I specialize in the Shelee Art Bloom Technique, developed by renowned Australian fluid artist Shelee Carruthers. Though challenging to master, this technique produces stunning, organic, and flowing abstract compositions—blooming with vibrant beauty.

I have also had the privilege of receiving training and mentorship from Karen Durishin of Waterfall Acrylics. Karen is an internationally recognized fluid artist celebrated for her innovative techniques, including the deconstructed bloom and deconstructed landscape methods.

What I love most about fluid art is its unpredictability. Each piece invites viewers to discover unique shapes, patterns, and forms, making every interpretation personal. While I control much of the process, the final outcome is always a delightful surprise.
